What is Stroke?
A stroke is a life-threatening neurological condition that occurs when the blood supply to the brain is suddenly cut off or severely reduced. When the brain does not receive enough oxygen and nutrients, brain cells are rapidly damaged and begin to die. Stroke is a serious health problem that requires both immediate intervention and long-term treatment.
How is Stroke Diagnosed?
At Metropol Health Group, we quickly evaluate our patients who show signs of stroke. The diagnosis process works as follows:
- MRI and CT Imaging: Used to determine the condition of the brain and the type of stroke (ischemic or hemorrhagic).
- Blood Tests: This is done to detect factors such as blood clotting problems or infection.
- Neurological Examination: Comprehensive tests are performed to evaluate brain and nerve function.
- Echocardiography and Doppler Ultrasound: Used to look for heart or vascular problems that may be the cause of the stroke.
What are the Symptoms of Stroke?
- Muscle weakness or paralysis: Sudden weakness or loss of movement, usually on one side of the body.
- Speech Problems Difficulty speaking or difficulty understanding.
- Vision Loss Sudden loss of vision or double vision in one or both eyes.
- Loss of Balance Difficulty walking, unsteadiness or loss of coordination.
- Severe Headache: Sudden and unexplained severe headache.
Stroke Treatment Methods
- Thrombolytic Therapy: Special drugs are used to dissolve the clot and restore blood flow. This treatment is usually used in ischemic strokes.
- Surgical Interventions: In the case of a brain hemorrhage, surgery may be needed to stop the bleeding and reduce the pressure on the brain.
- Rehabilitation Physical therapy, speech therapy and psychological support are provided to regain motor, speech and cognitive skills lost after stroke.
- Preventive Treatment and Lifestyle Modifications:
- Medication to lower cholesterol and blood pressure.
- Improving quality of life through diet and exercise programs.
- Health education to reduce stroke risk.
