What are Breast Diseases?
Breast diseases include benign (harmless) or malignant (cancerous) lumps, infections and other abnormal conditions that occur in the breast. Breast cancer is caused by the uncontrolled growth of cells in the breast tissue and early diagnosis is critical in treatment. Metropol Health Group offers services with expert teams in the diagnosis and treatment of breast diseases.
What are the Diagnostic Methods?
- Mammography:
It is a special X-ray method used to detect masses or changes in breast tissue. It is often preferred for early diagnosis. - Ultrasonography:
It examines the breast tissue with the help of sound waves and provides detailed images, especially in people with dense breast tissue. - MR Imaging:
It is used to examine suspicious areas by obtaining a detailed image of the breast tissue with magnetic resonance. - Biopsy:
By examining the tissue sample taken from suspicious masses in the laboratory, it is decided whether the mass is benign or malignant.
What are the Symptoms?
Symptoms of breast diseases can be:
- A palpable hard mass in the breast or armpit
- Bloody or transparent discharge from the nipple
- Significant change in breast shape or size
- Redness, dimpling or orange peel appearance of the breast skin
- Nipple retraction or shape change
What are the Treatment Methods?
A treatment plan is developed taking into account the type and stage of the disease and the person’s general health status:
- Surgical Intervention:
Methods such as removal of cancerous tissue (lumpectomy) or complete removal of the breast (mastectomy) are applied. If there is spread to the lymph nodes, these areas are also intervened. - Radiotherapy:
Special rays are used to destroy the cells in the cancerous area. It is usually applied after surgery. - Chemotherapy:
Destroys cancer cells with drugs. It can be used to shrink the tumor before surgery or to prevent spread afterwards. - Hormone Therapy:
In hormone-sensitive cancers, it stops the growth of cancer cells by reducing the effect of hormones. - Targeted Therapies:
These are treatment methods that target specific molecules in cancer cells and neutralize these cells.
At Metropol Health Group, it is aimed for patients to regain their health by applying the latest technologies and multidisciplinary approaches for the diagnosis and treatment of breast diseases.
