What is Gynecological and Obstetric Ultrasonography?
Gynecological and obstetric ultrasonography is a radiation-free, safe and painless diagnostic method used to visualize the female reproductive organs (uterus, ovaries) and the development of the baby during pregnancy. It plays an important role in the diagnosis of gynecological diseases and pregnancy follow-up.
How is it done?
At Metropol Health Group, high-resolution images are obtained with advanced ultrasonography devices. Ultrasound can be performed in two ways:
- Abdominal Application: Gel is applied to the abdomen and external imaging is performed with the help of a probe. It is especially preferred for pregnancy follow-up.
- Transvaginal Application: A detailed imaging is provided with the help of a thin probe inserted into the vagina. This method is used in cases that require a clearer examination of the uterus and ovaries.
In Which Situations Is It Used?
- Pain in the abdomen or pelvic area
- Menstrual irregularities or abnormal bleeding
- To monitor the development of the baby during pregnancy
- Ovarian cysts, fibroids or other reproductive system abnormalities
What are the Methods Applied?
- Diagnostic Ultrasonography: Used to assess the general condition of the female reproductive organs and to monitor pregnancy.
- Color Doppler Ultrasonography: Examines blood flow to check that the blood vessels and the baby’s circulatory system are healthy.
- 3D/4D Ultrasonography: More detailed examination is performed with three-dimensional (3D) and real-time (4D) images; especially during pregnancy, the baby’s movements and development are monitored.
Advantages
- Painless and Safe: Since it does not contain radiation, it can be used safely in pregnancy and other conditions.
- Early Diagnosis: Allows early diagnosis of diseases of the female reproductive system and pregnancy-related problems.
- Detailed Imaging: High resolution and detailed images are obtained thanks to advanced technology.
