Mass Surgery

What is Mass Surgery?
Mass surgery is the surgical removal of abnormal growths, tumors or masses that occur in various parts of the body. Masses are usually benign (benign) or malignant (cancerous). While benign masses usually do not harm the body, malignant masses can grow rapidly and damage surrounding tissues. Mass surgery is performed using different surgical methods depending on the location, type and size of the masses. This surgical intervention is important for both aesthetics and health and is usually performed after the masses have been correctly identified.

How is Mass Surgery Performed?
Mass surgery is usually performed under general anesthesia. The surgeon removes the mass using different methods depending on its size, type and location. Surgical intervention usually involves the following steps:

  1. Diagnosis and Imaging: Imaging methods such as ultrasound, X-ray, MRI or CT scans are used to make the correct diagnosis of the mass before surgery. Whether the masses are benign or malignant is determined in this process.
  2. Surgical Intervention: The mass is removed carefully to avoid damaging the surrounding tissue. If the mass is malignant, the surrounding tissues may also need to be removed. During the removal of malignant tumors, the patient may need additional treatments (chemotherapy, radiotherapy) depending on the stage of the tumor.
  3. Stitches and the healing process: After the mass is removed, sutures are applied to close the wound. The healing process requires regular control and follow-up after surgery.

Symptoms and Conditions Requiring Mass Surgery
Mass surgery is usually required in the following cases:

  • Swelling and Pain: Significant swelling, pain or mass in the body.
  • Changing Body Shape: Subcutaneous masses in particular can affect the appearance of the body.
  • Fast Growing Masses: Masses that grow rapidly or change shape may be malignant.
  • History and Symptoms: If the mass presses on organs and causes certain symptoms (e.g. shortness of breath, difficulty swallowing).

Treatment Methods
The treatment process of mass surgery varies according to the type of mass:

  1. Benign Masses: Benign masses are usually surgically removed and the patient’s treatment process usually continues without any problems. Such masses do not harm the body but may be removed due to aesthetic concerns.
  2. Malignant masses (cancerous masses): Treatment of cancerous masses is not limited to surgical intervention. After removal of malignant tumors, additional treatment methods such as chemotherapy or radiotherapy can be applied. Cancer treatment differs depending on the stage and spread of the mass.
