What are Movement Disorders?
Movement disorders are conditions characterized by neurological symptoms such as involuntary muscle contractions, tremors, stiffness and loss of balance. Diseases such as Parkinson’s disease, tremor (trembling), dystonia (excessive contraction of muscles) and dyskinesia (uncontrolled movements) fall into this group.
How is the diagnostic process done?
At Metropol Health Group, patients suffering from movement disorders undergo a detailed evaluation process.
- Neurological Examination: Evaluation of muscles, reflexes and movements.
- Imaging Methods: Detailed analysis of the brain and nervous system using advanced technology such as MRI and PET.
- Laboratory Tests: Blood tests and other biochemical examinations are used to investigate the underlying causes of the disease.
As a result of the diagnostic process, a treatment plan is prepared according to the type and severity of the disease.
What are the Symptoms?
- Tremor: Usually occurs in the hands and feet, at rest or during movement.
- Muscle stiffness A feeling of stiffness and strain in the muscles during movement.
- Slowing of Movements: Pauses in daily activities and slowing of movements.
- Balance and Coordination Problems: Difficulty with walking and other motor functions.
- Involuntary Movements: Spasms and uncontrollable muscle movements.
What are the Treatment Methods?
- Medication Therapy: Dopamine boosters and other symptom-relieving medications are used.
- Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS): It is a surgical method to regulate the areas of the nervous system that control movement with electrical impulses.
- Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation: Exercise programs that strengthen muscles and increase mobility are applied.
- Lifestyle Adjustments: Ergonomic adjustments for balance and movement problems and suggestions to facilitate daily activities.
