Birth: Process and Methods
Birth is the process of a baby coming out of the womb into the outside world. It is a special time for mother and baby and needs to be carefully managed. Birth usually takes place in three different ways:
Birth Methods
- Normal Birth
- It is the process in which the baby is born vaginally, the full opening of the cervix and the onset of labor pains.
- Natural Childbirth
- It is a form of normal birth in which medication and medical interventions are minimized. The mother is given more freedom of movement and the birth process proceeds as naturally as possible.
- Caesarean section
- It is a method of surgically removing the baby from the womb when normal delivery is not possible or risky.
How does it happen?
- Normal birth: Uterine contractions allow the baby to move into the birth canal. When the cervix opens completely, the baby is born.
- Natural Childbirth: The normal birth process is followed, but the mother is provided with a more natural environment during the birth and medical intervention and medications are minimized.
- Caesarean section: The uterus is accessed through a surgical incision and the baby is carefully removed. This procedure is usually performed in planned or emergency situations.
What are the signs of childbirth?
- Labor Pains: Contractions that come at regular intervals and intensify over time.
- Passage of amniotic fluid: The fluid that the baby is in comes out.
- Opening of the cervix: Preparing the birth canal for the passage of the baby.
- Pelvic Pressure Intense pressure felt in the pelvic area as the baby moves through the birth canal.
Treatment and Support Methods
- Birth Planning:
- The delivery method suitable for the health status of mother and baby is determined.
- Epidural Anesthesia:
- It is the application of anesthesia to the lumbar region to reduce pain during childbirth.
- Caesarean Section Surgery:
- It is a surgical method of delivery that is safely applied when necessary.
