What is Rhinoplasty?
Rhinoplasty is an aesthetic surgical intervention performed to change the shape of the nose and/or improve nasal functions. Since the nose is located in the center of the face, care is usually taken to ensure that it is compatible with facial aesthetics. Rhinoplasty aims to make shape changes to improve nasal aesthetics and functions. This operation usually involves corrections in areas such as the bridge of the nose, the tip of the nose, the nostrils or the septum (the wall inside the nose).
How is Rhinoplasty Performed?
Rhinoplasty is performed under general anesthesia and is performed using several different techniques:
- Closed Rhinoplasty: The incisions are made inside the nose, so there is no scar from the outside. The shape of the nose is adjusted with internal incisions.
- Open Rhinoplasty: In this technique, a small incision is made in the area between the nostrils. This method is preferred for more extensive and complex nose shape changes.
Rhinoplasty Symptoms and Conditions Requiring Rhinoplasty
Rhinoplasty can also be performed in the following cases other than aesthetic purposes:
- Incompatibility with nose shape and facial features
- Breathing difficulties (nasal congestion)
- Aesthetic and functional corrections after nasal trauma
Rhinoplasty Treatment Methods
- Aesthetic correction: Removal of the nasal arch, shaping the tip of the nose, reduction of the nostrils.
- Functional correction: correction of deviated septum, relief of nasal obstruction.
What is Revision Rhinoplasty?
Revision rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure performed to correct complications or improve aesthetic results after previous rhinoplasty surgeries. The results obtained from previous rhinoplasty surgeries may not be sufficient; the shape of the nose may be different than expected or functional problems may occur. In such cases, revision rhinoplasty is performed.
How Is Revision Rhinoplasty Performed?
Revision rhinoplasty can be performed with open or closed techniques and usually requires more complex surgical interventions. During the procedure, a new planning is made taking into account the effects of the previous surgery and the scar tissue formed. The shape of the nose is reshaped according to the patient’s expectations.
Symptoms and Conditions Requiring Revision Rhinoplasty
- Deformities or functional problems after the first rhinoplasty (e.g. nasal congestion)
- Aesthetically unsatisfactory results
- Intranasal structural problems (septum curvature, air passage problems)
Revision Rhinoplasty Treatment Methods
- Redesign of the nose shape: Rearrangements in bone and cartilage structures.
- Functional corrections: Opening of nasal passages, septum corrections.
