Endoscopic Ear Surgery

What is Endoscopic Ear Surgery?
Endoscopic ear surgery is a minimally invasive surgical technique for the diagnosis and treatment of various diseases of the ear and hearing system. Unlike conventional surgery, in endoscopic ear surgery, a small endoscope (a device with a camera) is inserted directly into the ear. This makes it possible to see the internal structures of the ear with high resolution and to perform the procedure more precisely. The endoscopic method is often preferred in the treatment of problems such as holes in the eardrum, middle ear infections, masses inside the ear and hearing loss. Since this surgical method is less invasive, patients have a shorter recovery time and a lower risk of complications.

How is Endoscopic Ear Surgery Performed?
Endoscopic ear surgery is usually performed under general anesthesia. The surgeon inserts a small endoscopic device into the ear canal and intervenes by observing the internal structures of the ear. The endoscopic devices used during the procedure allow the surgeon to obtain high-resolution images without damaging the tissues inside the ear. This allows the surgeon to work more precisely and accurately.

  1. Ear Inflammations and Discharges: Problems such as middle ear infections (otitis media) or perforations (holes) in the eardrum can be treated with endoscopic surgery. The endoscopic technique allows the surgeon to repair small holes in the eardrum and remove inflamed tissues.
  2. Ear Masses and Polyps: Endoscopic surgery is also used to remove benign masses or polyps in the ear. In this procedure, the surgeon removes these masses by minimally intervening in the internal structure of the ear.

Conditions and Symptoms Requiring Endoscopic Ear Surgery
Endoscopic ear surgery is usually recommended for the following conditions:

  • Middle Ear Infections: Surgical intervention may be required for inflamed ear infections that do not respond to treatment.
  • Perforations in the eardrum: Perforations in the eardrum can lead to hearing loss and may need to be repaired.
  • Chronic Ear Discharge: Persistent ear discharge can be a sign of structural problems inside the ear.
  • Ear Masses Benign tumors or polyps inside the ear can be surgically removed.
